Hi, I’m Offely.
Not everything fits on a postcard. I write about what exists beyond the frame: the overlooked corners, the unfamiliar moments, and the stories that make a place feel real.

Food in India can be a tricky challenge to tackle, especially when you want to be safe but also taste incredible flavours. How can one resist momos, chai, dosa or even a Bhang lassi?
You can have now have both by reading my “Eat now, regret never” and get all you need from an experienced traveller who’s been to India several times and can now navigate Indian cuisine without worry 🇮🇳🥘🥟☕️🕌

I crossed countries, mountains and oceans to see the Taj Mahal. But nothing prepared me to the last journey on my way to the jewel of Indian monuments (the Taj Mahal is in fact incursted with gemstones).
My train journey to Agra was culturally immersive if not slightly uncomfortable but where is the fun in comfort if you can’t share the memories? I was young, broke and worry-free. And it was worth the ride.

The first picture you see on my website is a scenery of Zhangjiajie’s most famous mountains. They have inspired movie makers and made China one of the best nature-focused destinations. And there, we found the top of the world 🇨🇳⛰️🌲

“There would be national mourning, great sadness.” The Sacred Bodhi Tree is the beating heart of Sri Lankan Buddhism and this is what my husband said when I asked him what would happen if Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi were to fall ill or die, like plants do.🌳☸️
Buddhism is at the core of Sri Lankan society. Temples, offerings, worship, these are a mere insight into a way of life like no other.
If you are curious about what is more a philosophy than a religion, want to know why a non-Buddhist cannot be president of Sri Lanka and how to behave at the temple, read my guide for novices to Buddhist etiquette and facts in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰
And remember: shoes off! 🛕🪷☸️

I did not have a phin, so I made do with filter bag. What’s a “phin” I hear you ask?

I stayed in the Cameron Highlands in 2019 after months spent travelling in the heat. I needed cool air, and rest.
Tanah Rata was the perfect place for both.
Misty mountains of rainforest, tea plantations, early mornings with Earl Grey, hitchhiking in the back of pickup trucks and a hostel that became home.

"The wind blows my hair before I can see the city. Then the medina of Essaouira appears through the car’s window."
The Atlantic crashes against ancient ramparts, blue fishing boats sway in the harbour and the alizés carry the scent of mint tea, spice and charcoal-grilled sardines through the medina.
For a few days, I slowed down with the rhythm of the city, wandering white and terracotta alleyways, drinking mint tea in hidden local cafés and watching kitesurfers disappear into the thralls of the ocean. 🌊🇲🇦🍵

Going away to Sri Lanka soon? Want to know more about what you’ll eat?
Think all the tropical fruits you can possibly find, fresh bread on your doorstep, spicy curries, the best dosas you’ve ever eaten and everything coconut. Also rice everywhere 🍚🥥
In my case, my mother in law does all the cooking whenever I’m there and I get a front row seat to a (very spicy but delicious) feast.

This country exceeded all my expectations this year. We swapped Japan for China due to visa issues, and it turned out to be a hidden gem. A sensory experience like no other, I highly recommend adding it to your bucket list.

I spent three weeks going around China earlier this year. It was one of the most unexpected trip I undertook. We booked the plane tickets at the end of February and landed there on March, 31st. Having a partner who lived there six years and speaks Mandarin was a lifesaver.
